Motive8 Technology, LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates the GreatLogos iOS and macOS application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We designed GreatLogos to work offline-first. The App is fully usable without an account. You only share information with us if you choose to create an account or use features that require it.
Information you provide
Apple Sign-In (optional)
If you choose to create an account, GreatLogos uses Sign in with Apple. We receive:
- Your name (only if you choose to share it during sign-in)
- An email address (which may be Apple's relay email — we never see your real address unless you choose to share it)
We use this only to identify your account so that your reading data can sync across your devices.
Reading data (only if you sign in and sync)
When you are signed in, the following data is synced to our servers so it appears on your other devices:
- Highlights, notes, and marginalia you create
- Bookmarks and reading progress
- Reading plans you have activated and your progress through them
- Concept and notebook entries you create
If you do not sign in, none of this leaves your device.
AI tutor chat messages (only if you use the tutor feature)
GreatLogos includes an optional AI tutor. When you send a message to the tutor, your message and relevant context (book title, the passage you are reading, your existing notes for that work) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. This happens in one of two ways:
- Through our servers (default for signed-in users): your message is sent to our backend, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API using our own API key. We process the request to provide the feature and record aggregate token-usage counts associated with your account (to operate the service and prevent abuse). We do not sell this data or use your conversations to train models.
- Directly, with your own API key (optional): if you add your own Anthropic API key in Settings, tutor messages are sent from your device straight to Anthropic and do not pass through our servers. Your API key is stored only in your device's secure Keychain — we never see it.
If you have signed in, the conversation is also stored on our servers so it persists across devices. You can clear conversations at any time from within the App.
Educator and class data (only if you opt in)
If you choose to become an educator or join a class:
- Educators can see student progress and chat transcripts for the classes they administer.
- Students linked to a class consent to sharing their reading data with their educator.
- This is opt-in on both sides and can be revoked at any time.
Information we do NOT collect
- Location data
- Contacts
- Photos, camera, microphone access
- Health or fitness data
- Financial data or payment information
- Advertising identifiers
- Cross-app or cross-website tracking data
We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
How we use your information
We use the information above only to:
- Provide the App's features (sync, AI tutoring, educator dashboards)
- Maintain and improve the App
- Respond to support requests you send us
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Third parties we share data with
GreatLogos uses these services to operate. Each receives only the information needed for their specific function:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — chat messages and relevant reading context are sent here to generate AI tutor responses. Anthropic's privacy practices: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy

We do not share your information with any other third parties.
Where your information is stored
Our servers are hosted by Amazon Web Services in the United States (region us-east-2, Ohio). If you use the App from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States.
How long we keep your information
- We keep your account and synced reading data as long as your account is active.
- If you delete your account (in the App: Settings → Account → Delete Account), we delete your reading data from our servers. Some records may persist in backups for up to 30 days before they are also purged.
- We keep diagnostic logs for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access your data — everything we have is visible in the App.
- Export your data — contact us at the address below and we will provide your data in JSON.
- Correct your data — edit highlights, notes, etc. directly in the App.
- Delete your account and data — Settings → Account → Delete Account in the App. This action is final.
- Use the App without an account — simply don't sign in. No data leaves your device.
If you are in California, the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (CCPA, GDPR, UK GDPR), you have additional rights — including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Email us to exercise any of these rights.
Children's privacy
GreatLogos is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard security:
- Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS).
- Data at rest in AWS DynamoDB is encrypted at the storage layer.
- Your Anthropic API key is stored only in your device's iOS Keychain — we never receive or store it.
- Server-side credentials are stored in AWS SSM Parameter Store with restricted access.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we'll notify users in the App and via the email associated with their account before the change takes effect.
